Please note: On 520i/525i models produced from May 1990. (with a four-valve M50 engine) the new 5-speed THM-R1 gearbox is installed, these vehicles can be towed for a maximum of 150 km at a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
If you need to tow over long distances, the rear of the vehicle must be raised or the driveshaft must be disconnected from the rear axle gearbox. When the engine is off, the automatic transmission pump does not work, so at high speeds and for a long time, the box will not have sufficient lubrication.
To prevent the steering wheel from locking and to be able to use the turn signals, horn and, if necessary, windshield wipers, turn on the ignition.
Since the brake booster only works when the engine is running, the brake pedal must be pressed harder when the engine is not running!
