The amount of fluid to replace is about 3.3 liters.
Attention: Only ATF fluids recommended by the manufacturer may be used. These fluids include the following: ESSOATFDEXROND-21065 (filled in at the factory), ATF DEXRON II D-20356 (firm SHEII), ATF 220 D-20104 (firm MOBIL), DEXRONIID-2D356 (firm TOTAL). For other ATF fluids, consult a specialist workshop.
When replacing the ATF, care must be taken to maintain cleanliness. Even the smallest contamination can lead to automatic transmission failure.
Attention: Without ATF in the automatic transmission, do not allow the engine to idle. Without ATF filled in the automatic transmission, the car cannot be towed.
Examination
Checking the fluid level on the latest models is only possible using a diagnostic tester.
The consequences of too high a fluid level can be the following: strong foaming, loss of throttle response, temperature increase at high speed, loss of fluid through the automatic transmission ventilation system.
The consequences of a too low fluid level may be the following: valve knocks, foaming, the engine scrolls without increasing the speed of the car, general deficiencies in operation.
The ATF fluid level in the ZF4HD22 box is checked with an oil dipstick.
The difference between the MIN and MAX marks is 0.25 liters.
Fluid replacement
Make a test drive for about 15 km to allow the automatic transmission to warm up.
Raise and support the vehicle until it is level and remove the lower cover (mudguard) engine compartment.
Unscrew the fluid drain plug (1) from the oil sump and catch any spilled fluid. If the fluid has a burnt smell and a blackish color, then the automatic transmission needs to be repaired.
Unscrew the fill plug on the automatic transmission case.
Tighten the fluid drain plug with a new O-ring. The tightening torque is 15 Nm.
Pour ATF through the fill hole until it flows out of the hole.
Start the engine by switching the selector lever to position P. Turn on the exterior lighting - while the idle speed should increase.
Pour in more ATF until it overflows from the fill hole-sh
Tighten the stopper (2) with new O-ring torque 100 Nm.
When the engine is idling, switch the selector several times through all positions.
Check the fluid level in the workshop.
