Adjusting the gear shift cable (BMW 7 Series E32)
Gear shift ranges (PRND etc.) are switched on in automatic transmissions using a gear shift cable. Its adjustment is necessary after installing the gearbox or gear shift mechanism parts.
Place the selector lever in position P.
Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the lower engine compartment cover (mudguard).
Loosen the nut (2) of the cable on the gearshift lever.
Press the lever (3) with your hand until it stops forward, i.e. in the direction of travel. This corresponds to the parking position of the car.
Press the shift cable rod in the direction opposite to the direction of travel and in this position tighten the clamp bolt to a torque of 10 Nm, i.e. not too tightly. In this case, the clamp bolt must be held with a second wrench so as not to bend the cable.
Install the lower engine cover (mudguard), lower the car.
Unscrew the clamping nut (2). Unscrew the nuts (5) on the support and remove the cable.
When installing, insert the cable and first lock the nuts on the support.
Finally, adjust the cable.
The prerequisite for adjustment is a correctly installed gas drive.
In the neutral position, set the play with the bolt to S=0.25-0.5 mm.
Adjustment
Place the selector lever in position P.

Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the lower engine compartment cover (mudguard).
Loosen the nut (2) of the cable on the gearshift lever.
Caution: To prevent the cable from kinking, be sure to hold the clamp bolt while loosening the nut. Shift control cables that are kinked must be replaced, as they will soon become damaged.

Install the lower engine cover (mudguard), lower the car.
Removal and installation the cable
Unscrew the clamping nut (2). Unscrew the nuts (5) on the support and remove the cable.

Finally, adjust the cable.
Downshift drive in the "over-gas" mode (kick-down) - adjustment
The prerequisite for adjustment is a correctly installed gas drive.
In the neutral position, set the play with the bolt to S=0.25-0.5 mm.
