Rear axle — general information and design (BMW 5 Series E39)

The integral rear axle is a multi-link design with a subframe and double elastic suspension of the main gear. The wheels are guided by four levers elastically connected to the subframe, which in turn is elastically connected to the body. The wheel guide levers are geometrically arranged so that together with the rubber supports they create a pre-calculated steering effect of the rear wheels.

Caution: Since the rear axle is made entirely of aluminum alloy, it is necessary to follow the instructions on page 81.
