Rear Axle. General Information (BMW 3 Series E30)

BMW cars have a rear axle with diagonal levers of independent wheel suspension. Barrel-shaped coil springs and hydraulic shock absorbers serve for suspension.

The rear axle gearbox is located in the middle of the rear axle. It is fixed to the axle beam and connected via a rubber support to the bottom of the frame. The asymmetrically located rubber support limits the rear axle gearbox's own movement.

The cardan shaft connects to the secondary shaft of the gearbox and to the flange of the drive bevel gear. It transmits torque from the gearbox through the rear axle gearbox and half-shafts to the rear wheels. The rear wheels are controlled by diagonal levers, which rest on the rear axle beam through rubber supports.
