Replacing the voltage regulator (BMW 7 Series E38)
Remove the generator (see section Removal and installation the generator).
1. Remove the voltage regulator cover fastener.
2. Unscrew the bolts and remove the voltage regulator.
3. Check the contact surfaces of the contact rings for signs of wear and grind them if necessary.
4. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
1. Loosen the cover mounting nuts and remove it by moving it upwards. If you cannot remove the cover, insert a screwdriver between the cover and the stud.
2. Remove the nuts (1) and remove the sealant (2).
3. Unscrew the contact bolts (1) and remove the voltage regulator (2).
4. Check the contact surfaces of the contact rings for signs of wear and grind them if necessary.
5. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Models with engines other than M57


1. Remove the voltage regulator cover fastener.


2. Unscrew the bolts and remove the voltage regulator.

3. Check the contact surfaces of the contact rings for signs of wear and grind them if necessary.
4. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
A special mounting cover is used to install the Valeo generator voltage regulator.
Models with M57 engine

1. Loosen the cover mounting nuts and remove it by moving it upwards. If you cannot remove the cover, insert a screwdriver between the cover and the stud.

2. Remove the nuts (1) and remove the sealant (2).

3. Unscrew the contact bolts (1) and remove the voltage regulator (2).
4. Check the contact surfaces of the contact rings for signs of wear and grind them if necessary.
5. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
To install the generator voltage regulator, press the carbon brushes into the brush holders.
