Removal and installation the water pump (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Drain the coolant.

Loosen the alternator drive belt, then remove the belt and crankshaft pulley.

Remove the vibration damper from the hub and disconnect the hoses from the thermostat housing.

Remove the TDC sensor and the camshaft drive belt cover.

Install tool 11 5 010 onto the tension roller spring.

Remove the water pump by disconnecting the hose from it.

Installation

Check the main oil line plug for leaks and replace it if necessary. The new plug should be installed using a sealant such as Loclite 270.

Install the water pump, replacing the gasket.

Remove tool 11 5 010 from the tension roller spring and install the toothed belt cover together with the lifting arms.

Install the TDC sensor, maintaining a gap of 0.2–2.0 mm between it and the torsional vibration damper.

Connect the coolant hoses and install the torsional vibration damper on the hub, ensuring that the mounting pin is in the correct position.

Install the crankshaft pulley and put on the alternator drive belt.

Adjust the tension of the generator drive belt.

Pour the liquid into the expansion tank and remove air from the cooling system.
