Replacing the rear crankshaft oil seal (BMW 3 Series E21)

Remove the clutch cover and flywheel.

Remove the two bolts securing the crankshaft rear oil seal holder to the oil pan.

Remove the two bolts securing the crankshaft rear oil seal holder to the oil pan.


Remove the holder and press the seal out of it.

Remove the holder and press the seal out of it.


Check the tightness of the main oil line plug and replace it if necessary. The new plug must be installed on a sealant such as Loctite N 270.

Press the new rear crankshaft oil seal into the holder using the 11 1 260 drift with the 00 5 500 handle.

Fill the working lips of the rear crankshaft oil seal with grease.

Apply a sealant such as Atmosit or Curil K 2 to the mating surfaces of the seal holder and oil pan.

Install drift 11 2 213 on the crankshaft and place the oil seal holder on the drift.
