Removal and installation the fuel pump (BMW 3 Series E30)

The fuel pump is located under the bottom of the vehicle near the fuel tank.

Removal

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

Unscrew the electrical wires from the pump, having first removed the protective caps.

Loosen the clamps and disconnect the fuel hoses. To prevent fuel from leaking out, first close the hoses with clamps or, after disconnecting, close the ends of the hoses with suitable screws. Wipe off any leaking fuel with a rag.

Unscrew 3 nuts and remove the mounting bracket cover.

Remove the fuel pump together with the mounting bracket.

Unscrew the fuel pump from the bracket and remove the rubber ring.

Installation

Check the rubber support for cracks and damage and, if necessary, replace it.

Screw the fuel pump to the bracket and insert it into place.

Screw on the bracket casing with 3 nuts.

Connect the fuel hoses and secure them with clamps.

Caution: The discharge hose must only be secured with a screw clamp.

Remove the clamps from the hoses.

Screw on the electrical wires and cover the pads with rubber caps.

Connect the ground wire to the battery.
