Motronic, L-/LE-/LU-Jetronic
The temperature sensor measures the temperature of the engine and transmits this information to the control unit. The temperature sensor contains an NTC element (NTC - negative temperature coefficient), whose resistance decreases with increasing temperature.
Withdrawal
Attention: To prevent coolant from flowing out when removing the sensor, drain some of the coolant into a vessel.
Remove the temperature sensor connector.
Unscrew the temperature sensor.
Bring the sensor temperature up to the appropriate reference value. To do this, either by placing the sensor in the refrigerator. or warm up in a water bath. When the set temperature is reached, remove the sensor and measure the resistance between its contacts.
At a temperature of -10°C, the resistance should be 8.2-10.5 kOhm; at a temperature of 20°C - 2.2-2.7 kOhm; and at a temperature of 80°C - 300-360 0m. In case of deviations from the specified values, replace the temperature sensor.
Installation
Screw in the temperature sensor with a new gasket and tighten to 15 Nm.
Attention: Do not overtighten the temperature sensor.
Connect connector.
Fill with coolant (see section «Coolant replacement»).
Remove air from the cooling system.
Make a control trip and check the tightness of the temperature sensor installation site, if necessary, tighten it a little.
