K-JETRONIC injection device (BMW 3 Series E30)

            0

The K-Jetronic injection system is installed on BMW-318i vehicles produced before September 1983.

The K-Jetronic device is a mechanical injection device for petrol engines that continuously injects fuel into the intake manifold in front of the intake valves.

Fuel is supplied by an electric fuel pump from the fuel tank through the fuel accumulator and fuel filter to the fuel dispenser. The air mass is sucked in by the engine through the intake pipe and measured by the air flow meter. The fuel dispenser supplies the amount of fuel to the cylinders through the appropriate injectors depending on the measured amount of air. Additional sensing elements and sensors ensure the required fuel dosage in extreme temperature conditions and in exceptional driving situations.

The fuel accumulator ensures that the fuel is kept under pressure and for a long time after the engine is turned off. This prevents fuel evaporation and improves the conditions for starting a hot engine.

The fuel pump relay powers the fuel pump and supplies power to the starting valve when the engine is started and running. The relay removes power from the fuel pump when the ignition is turned off and when ignition pulses cease to arrive (when the engine is stalled and the ignition is on).

The starting valve injects additional fuel into the intake manifold to facilitate engine starting.

The thermal time switch determines the injection duration of the starting valve.

The pressure regulator maintains a pressure of 4.6-5.0 bar in the system.

An additional air damper with electrical heating stabilizes the engine speed during the warm-up phase.

The warm-up regulator enriches the fuel mixture during the warm-up phase.

Caution: When working on the mechanical fuel injection device, it is necessary to maintain impeccable cleanliness. Before removing, the relevant parts must be cleaned with gasoline. The system is under high pressure. Therefore, before replacing parts, it is necessary to relieve the pressure by slowly releasing the fuel pipe on the cold start injector. In this case, it is necessary to place a rag at the connection point. Danger of fuel escaping under pressure! Wipe off leaking fuel with a rag.
