Front Anti-Roll Bar Earring — Removal and Installation (BMW 3 Series E46)

Note: You will need new earring mounting nuts for installation.

Removal

1. Apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands (see "Raising and supporting the vehicle on jack stands").

2. Unscrew the hinge nut and disconnect the shackle from the stabilizer. Hold the hinge pin from turning with an open-end wrench.

3. Unscrew the nut securing the shackle hinge to the stand. Hold the hinge pin with an open-end wrench to prevent it from turning (Fig. 8.3).



4. Inspect the shackle for wear or damage. Inspect the hinges to ensure they are not sticking and the rubber boots are not damaged. Replace the shackle if necessary.

Installation

5. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Screw on new nuts and tighten them to the required torque.
