Note. When installing, you will need a new strut-to-knuckle bolt and lower ball joint nuts.
Withdrawal
1. Apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands (cm. "Lifting and placing the car on supports"). Remove the corresponding front wheel.
2. If you are installing a new steering knuckle, remove the hub first (see paragraph 2).
3. If you will not be replacing the steering knuckle, remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper bracket to the steering knuckle and remove the caliper assembly. Use wire or twine to tie the caliper to the front suspension spring without tightening the brake hose. On models with ABS, also remove the wheel sensor (see paragraph 20 of chapter 9).
4. Turn away a nut of fastening of the spherical hinge of steering draft to a rotary fist. Separate the ball joint pin from the lever using a puller.
5. Turn away a nut of the lower spherical support and disconnect a spherical support from a rotary fist by means of a stripper.
6. Turn out a bolt of fastening of a rack to a rotary fist. Lower the steering knuckle down and disconnect it from the rack. To facilitate removal, use a large screwdriver to spread apart the steering knuckle clamp (pic. 3.6). Be careful not to spread the clamp more than necessary so as not to break it.
7. Inspect knuckle for damage or wear. Replace fist if necessary.
Installation
8. Before installing, clean the threaded hole in the knuckle for the pinch bolt with a tap of the appropriate size.
In the absence of the necessary tap, you can clean the threaded holes using an old bolt by sawing a groove in it across the threads.
9. Place the knuckle on the lower arm ball joints and install a new nut.
10. Align the knuckle with the suspension strut. Make sure the strut locating pin is in the groove of the steering knuckle yoke (pic. 3.10). Raise your fist to the stop on the rack. Screw in a new coupling bolt and tighten it to the required torque.
11. Tighten the lower ball joint nut to the correct torque.
12. Insert the tie rod ball joint pin into the steering knuckle arm, then screw on a new nut and tighten it to the required torque.
13. Install a new hub (see paragraph 2).
14. If the hub was not removed from the steering knuckle, reinstall the caliper. Make sure the pads are in the correct position relative to the brake disc. Lightly lubricate the threads of the caliper bracket mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque (see chapter 9).
15. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to the correct torque.
