Note. The front hub should not be removed until it needs to be replaced. The inner races of the hub bearings are pressed onto the axles of the hubs, so the bearings will be damaged when the hubs are removed. BMW recommends replacing the hub assembly after removing it in any case. When installing you will need a new hub nut and cap.
Withdrawal
1. Remove the front brake disc (see chapter 9).
2. Remove the mounting screw and remove the wheel sensor (see paragraph 20 of chapter 9).
3. Knock off the grease cap from the center of the hub (pic. 2.3).
4. Using a hammer and a beard, open the hub nut and unscrew it (pic. 2.4).
5. Fix on a nave a stripper and pull off a nave from a rotary fist. If the bearing inner race remains on the steering knuckle, a special puller will be required to remove it (pic. 2.5). Keep in mind that the hub bearings are not changed separately. The entire hub assembly is replaced.
6. If necessary, unscrew the fastening screws and remove the rear shield of the brake disc.
Installation
7. Install the rear shield of the brake disc on the steering knuckle (if it was taken) and securely tighten the fixing screws.
8. Make sure. that the boot is on the back of the hub, then slide the hub onto the steering knuckle. Press the hub onto the knuckle, resting a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter against the inner ring of the bearing (pic. 2.8).
9. Secure the hub with a new nut. Tighten the nut to the required torque and tighten it with a hammer and chisel.
10. Check that the hub rotates easily and smoothly, and install a new cap.
11. Install the brake disc and ABS wheel sensor (see chapter 9).
