Installing the crankshaft (BMW 5 Series E12)

Make sure that the crankshaft main bearing journals and shells are of the same size group. Color codes (red or blue) on the main bearing shells must be identical to the indices on the main journals of the crankshaft.

Note: Crankshafts with reground main and connecting rod journals have marks indicating the repair size: one mark - 1st repair size; two risks - 2nd repair size; three risks - 3rd repair size.

The new crankshafts have color codes on the counterweight side (red or blue).
