Checking the adjustment of the ZF 3HP 20 gearbox (BMW 5 Series E12)

When accelerator pedal 8 is pressed until it touches stop 9 for forced engagement of a lower gear, limiters 7 must fully rest against the carburetor housings, and intermediate lever 4 must not be lifted by intermediate lever 6.

When these conditions are met, adjust the throttle control cable length as follows:

• disconnect the cable and press the accelerator drive to the full throttle position;
• pull the cable to the full throttle position, turning adjustment sleeve 3 (see photo) if necessary so that the connecting pin can be easily inserted simultaneously into the holes of sleeve 3 and lever 6.
