Adjusting the throttle control drive of the ZF 3HP 20 gearbox (BMW 5 Series E12)

This adjustment should be made on a warm engine after synchronizing the operation of both carburetors.

Remove the air filter.

Disconnect rod 1 (see picture) drive, connecting rod 2 and cable 3 of the throttle valve drive.



Move the intermediate lever 4 until it stops against the engine mount support 5.

Start the engine and adjust the length of connecting rod 2 so that at a given position of the intermediate lever the crankshaft speed does not change.

By acting on the intermediate lever 6, move the limiter 7 of the carburetors until it stops.

Press the accelerator pedal 8 until it touches the forced downshift stop 9, without pressing the forced downshift switch. In this position, adjust the length of the drive rod 1.
