Adjusting the throttle control drive of the ZF 3HP 22 gearbox (BMW 5 Series E12)

This adjustment must be made on a warm engine, i.e. with the air flaps fully open and the throttle valve opening device in operation.

Check the length "L" (see picture) traction rod 1 of the accelerator control, which on cars with carburetor engines should be equal to 275 mm, on cars with fuel injection engines - 430 mm.



When the engine is idling, adjust the gap "S" with screw 2, which should be within 0.25-0.75 mm.

Press the accelerator pedal 3 until it stops 4 forcing the lower gear to engage. Adjust the length of the rod 5 so that the gap "S" between the tip 6 and the end 7 of the cable sheath is 4.40-5.10 mm.
