General information
Always observe the following precautions when working on electrical systems:
- Be extremely careful when servicing engine electrical components. If not properly checked, connected or handled, they are easily damaged.
- Never leave the ignition on for a long time when starting the engine.
- Do not disconnect the battery wires while the engine is running.
- When starting the engine from an additional battery, follow the rules. Read the safety precautions at the end of this manual.
- Always disconnect the negative battery cable first and reconnect it last to avoid the risk of an accidental short circuit.
- Do not charge a battery with wires attached.
- Also, before starting the work described in this Chapter, it is advisable to get acquainted with the information on safety measures regarding the electrical systems of the engine.
If your vehicle's radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you know the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Before disconnecting the wire, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
If, after connecting the battery, a message in a different language appears on the instrument panel display, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
