Replacing the rubber band of the windshield wiper blade (BMW 5 Series E39)
If the window glass is not cleaned well, the rubber strips of the windshield wipers must be replaced with new ones. In specialized stores, you can buy rubber strips both together with holders and separately. If only the rubber strip is replaced, you must make sure that the holder is not bent.
Raise the windshield wiper arm slightly and hold it in this position.
Move slider "1" in the direction of the arrow and remove the wiper blade by moving it towards the windshield.
From the fixed side of the rubber band, squeeze both steel tires with pliers, remove them from the upper clamp from the side, and pull the rubber band together with the tires out of the remaining clamps of the windshield wiper arm.
Place the new rubber strip without retaining strips loosely into the lower clamp of the windscreen wiper blade.
Place both tires into the first groove of the rubber band so that the grooves of the tires face the rubber band and are fixed in the protrusions of the band groove.
Both tires and the rubber band are compressed with pliers and inserted into the upper clamp so that the clamp projections are fixed on both sides in the retaining grooves of the rubber band "arrow".
Place the blade on the wiper arm and move the locking slider back.
Fold the windshield wiper arm back onto the glass. Make sure that the rubber band of the windshield wiper arm is in contact with the glass along its entire length.
