Gasoline engines
The use of Longlife-Ole engine oils prescribed by BMW is recommended.
Note: To replenish in small amounts between scheduled engine oil changes, Spezialol engine oil or another oil that meets ACEA specification AZ-96 can be used. Some of the motor oils approved by BMW are listed below as an example. A complete list of approved oils is available from your BMW dealer.
Longlife-Ole with viscosity:
- SAE 0W-30: Castrol Formula SLX, DEA Ultec Syn-T, Esso Ultron, Shell Helix Ultra, Veedol Synthron.
- SAE 0W-40: Aral Super Tronic, BP Visco 7000, Mobil 1, Shell Helix Ultra.
- SAE 5W-30: Agip TECSINT, Aral Super Tronic, Castrol TXT, DEA Viscobil S1, Liqui Moly Profi Synthoil.
- SAE 5W-40: Agip Extra HTS, Aral High Tronic, BP Visco 5000, DEA Viscobil S1, Elf Synthese.
Spezialole with viscosity:
- SAE 5W-3D: Aral High Tronic, Castrol Formula LS, Jet Top Level, Valvoline High Performance Synthetic Motor Oil.
- SAE 5W-40: Castrol Formula RS Super Syntec, Esso Ultron, Gulf Formula G, Jet Gold, Karstadt Mach 1.
- SAE 10W-30: Shell Helix Diesel Plus, Shell Helix Plus.
- SAE 10W-40: Agip Sint 2000 GPX, Aral Basic Tronic, BP Visco 5000, Castrol GTX MAGNATEC, Esso Ultra.
Diesel engines
All engine oils are approved for operation that simultaneously comply with the specifications AZ-96 and VZ-96 of the ACEA classification. Recommended viscosity grades: OW-X, 5W-X and 10W-X. The symbol X here replaces any number indicating the viscosity grade, such as 30, 40 or 50.
