Measuring instruments (BMW 7 Series E32)

            0

For measurements on the car electrical system, a universal measuring device is best suited - a multimeter, ammeter-voltmeter or tester. It combines a voltmeter for measuring voltage, an ammeter for measuring current and an ohmmeter for measuring resistance.

There are special multimeters for taking measurements on the electrical equipment of a car. In addition to purely electrical values, it can measure the engine speed, the angle of the closed state of the ignition system, voltage up to 20 V and resistance in the range of 1-1000 kOhm.

If you just want to check whether there is voltage at all, a simple test lamp (A) is suitable. It can only be used in circuits where there are no electronic components. Electronic components are very sensitive to high currents and can be damaged when a test lamp is connected.

Caution: When checking electronic components (diodes, transistors, control units) a high-impedance voltage (V) tester is needed, which works just like a test lamp but does not damage electronic components.
