Removal and installation a telescopic stand (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Raise the front of the vehicle and remove the front wheel. Disconnect the brake hose bracket from the telescopic strut.



Remove the front brake caliper and hang it from the body without disconnecting the brake hose.

Remove the cotter pin and unscrew the crown nut securing the steering rod to the steering knuckle.

Press the ball joint pin of the steering rod out of the steering knuckle using puller 322 050.

Press the ball joint pin of the suspension arm out of the steering knuckle using puller 31 1 100.

By pushing the suspension arm down, remove the steering knuckle from the arm ball joint pin.

Disconnect the end of the stabilizer bar from the control arm.

Disconnect the suspension arm from the front suspension crossmember.

Loosen the nuts securing the upper support of the telescopic strut to the body mudguard.



Remove the telescopic stand.

Installation

Tighten the nuts securing the upper support of the telescopic strut to the body mudguard.

Attach the control arm to the front suspension crossmember by inserting the bolt with the head facing the rear of the vehicle and tightening the new self-locking nut.

Attach the end of the stabilizer bar to the control arm using a new self-locking nut.

Check the condition of the suspension arm joint protective boot and replace it if necessary.

Attach the suspension arm and steering rod to the steering knuckle.

Install the front brake caliper and place the brake hose bracket in place so that the bracket boss fits into the bracket hole.
