Removal and installation the center console and shelf under the dashboard (BMW 3 Series E30)
Removal
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Remove the ashtray. If necessary, remove the lamp holder.

Loosen the shelf mounting screw. Pull the console back, release its front side and pull it off the handbrake lever.

Loosen the front screws securing the ashtray to the console.

Loosen the screw securing the console under the heater control.
For manual transmission: remove the gear shift knob.

Pull the faux leather cover up.
On vehicles with automatic transmission: remove the shift knob cover, unscrew the screws located underneath, remove the trim; if there is a power window switch, remove it.

Pull out the soundproofing gasket. Unscrew the console nut.

Remove the lower shelf under the dashboard. To do this, turn the locks (arrows) 90° with a wide screwdriver. Remove the trim.

Turn the lock 90° on both sides and pull the console back. If there are connectors to the switches, disconnect them.
Installation
Insert the console, connect the connectors to the switches.
Secure the console by turning both locks 90°.
Tighten the screw securing the console under the heater control panel.
Insert the instrument panel trim and secure by turning the locks.

Tighten the 2 screws securing the ashtray at the front.
Screw on the nut. Insert the soundproofing gasket.
Place the leatherette cover on the shift knob and insert the board into the console.
Press the shift lever handle firmly. It should snap into the stopper.
On cars with automatic transmission: insert the shift knob trim and tighten the screws, having first inserted the electric window lift switch. Install the trim.
Insert the ashtray console and push it (arrows) into the middle console.

Secure the console with a screw. Insert the ashtray.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
