Attention: All instructions are given for the steering wheel without an airbag system installed (airbag). Removal of the airbag for safety reasons must only be carried out by a specialist workshop.
Withdrawal
Remove the BMW emblem with a small screwdriver.
Mark the relative position of the steering wheel and steering shaft with paint or a rake.
Loosen nut -1- and remove washer -2-.
Remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft.
Attention: The steering wheel can only be removed when the lock on the steering column is unlocked.
Installation
Put the steering wheel on the steering shaft so that the markings made when removing the markings match.
Apply spacer. Turn the steering wheel and lock the lock on the steering column. Screw in a new self-locking nut with a tightening torque of 80 Nm.
Insert the BMW logo into the soft cover.
Carry out a test drive and check the position of the steering wheel while driving in the forward direction. The upper spoke of the steering wheel must be horizontal.
If the steering wheel is set at an angle, it can be moved in the splines by a maximum of 2 teeth.
Attention: If this steering wheel offset is not sufficient, check the toe-in of the front wheels.
Check the functioning of the horn.
Check the automatic deactivation of the turn signal switch.
Note: A dirty or sticky steering wheel can be cleaned with a neutral detergent and warm water. Do not use any cleaning agents.
