Mark the relative positions of the steering wheel and steering shaft with paint or marking tape.

Unscrew nut "1" and remove washer "2".

Remove the steering wheel from the steering shaft.

Caution: The steering wheel can only be removed when the steering column lock is unlocked.

Installation

Place the steering wheel on the steering shaft so that the markings made during removal match.

Apply the spacer washer. Turn the steering wheel and engage the steering column lock. Tighten the new self-locking nut to a torque of 80 Nm.

Insert the BMW emblem into the soft cover.

Make a test drive and check the position of the steering wheel while driving straight ahead. The upper spoke of the steering wheel should be horizontal.

If the steering wheel is positioned at an angle, it can be moved in the splines by a maximum of 2 teeth.

Note: If this steering wheel offset is not sufficient, check the front wheel alignment.

Check the operation of the sound signal.

Check the automatic turn-off of the turn signal switch.

Note: A dirty or sticky steering wheel can be cleaned with a neutral detergent and warm water. Do not use any abrasives.
