Hood lock(s) — removal and installation (BMW 3 Series E46)

Removal

1. To gain easier access to the rear of the lock(s), remove the radiator (see chapter 3).

2. On models with air conditioning, squeeze the tabs located under the condenser supports and pull the plastic covers down (Fig. 10.2). Carefully slide the condenser back and down.

Caution: Do not disconnect the air conditioner pipes.

3. Remove the two screws located in the center of the hood crossbar, press the clamps and remove the casing backwards (Fig. 10.3).



4. Loosen the lock mounting screws, then disconnect the cable sheath from the lock. After that, disconnect the cable from the lock (Fig. 10.4). Remove the lock from the vehicle.

Installation

5. Secure the cable in the lock and attach the cable sheath to the lever. Install the lock in place.

6. Align the marks made before removal, then install the screws and tighten them securely.

7. Make sure the lock operates smoothly and without resistance. Make sure the hood closes and opens securely.

8. After installing the lock, install the condenser in place (if it exists), then install the radiator (see chapter 3).
