Installing an additional lock for a wheel bolt (BMW 7 Series E32)

Loosen the wheel bolts. Raise and support the vehicle so that the wheel can rotate freely.

Loosen the wheel bolts so that the wheel moves freely on the hub.

Install the wheel so that the valve is facing down (bottom arrow).

Install the wheel so that the valve is facing down (bottom arrow).


Remove the topmost wheel bolt and replace it with a wheel bolt with a lock (top arrow).

In this position (bolt with lock on top/valve on bottom)tighten the wheel bolts by hand in a cross pattern.

Lower the car.

Tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 100 Nm.

Note: With this setup, the imbalance due to the heavier bolt with the lock will be minimal. If an imbalance does occur while driving, the wheel will need to be balanced.
