Attention. Safety precautions in case of tire damage and wheel replacement:
  • Park your car on a hard surface as far away from traffic as possible. Turn on the hazard warning lights. Set the wheels to the straight-ahead position and lock the steering wheel. Apply the parking brake and engage first or reverse gear (on the automatic transmission, position P).
  • Ask all passengers to leave and take them away from the danger zone (for example, behind a highway fence). If necessary, install a warning triangle or flashing light at an appropriate distance. Follow the rules of the host country. Change the wheel only on a flat, hard and non-slip surface. On a soft or slippery surface (snow, ice, ceramic tiles, etc.) the car or jack may pull to the side. Place the jack on a solid surface.
  • Do not place anything under the jack, as its insufficient height limits its lifting capacity. When the vehicle is raised, do not lie under it or start the engine. This is life-threatening!

Necessary tool

Open the trunk lid and lift or remove the trunk floor cover completely.

1. Jack. 2. Wheel wrench.; 3. Wheel chock.

1. Jack. 2. Wheel wrench.; 3. Wheel chock.

To prevent the tool from knocking while driving, store it properly and secure it in its original place after each use.

Compact wheel

The compact spare tire is located under the trunk on the bottom of the car.

Removal the compact wheel

1. Remove the screw, see arrow 1.

  • 1. Remove the screw, see arrow 1.
  • 2. Lift the handle up, see arrow 2.

  • 3. Turn the handle counterclockwise until it stops, see arrow 3. When turning the handle, the wheel is released from the mount. The wheel weighs about 8 kg. Hold it with the handle.
  • 4. Slowly lower the handle with the wheel down until it stops, see arrow 4.

5. Pull the compact wheel back, but so that it does not fall out of its niche.

  • 5. Pull the compact wheel back, but so that it does not fall out of its niche.
  • 6. If necessary, rotate the wheel in the recess so that the safety strap mount on the rim is at the rear (that is, closer to you).
  • 7. Rotate the carabiner 180°, see arrow 1, and unhook the belt loop from it, see arrow 2.
  • 8. Pull the wheel towards you.
  • 9. Fasten the safety belt (in reverse order) on the right side wall of the niche and return the niche to its place.

Please note: The stock tire will not fit into the niche provided for the compact spare tire because it is larger in size.

Putting the compact wheel back in place

The compact wheel is put back in place in reverse order.

Caution: When attaching the safety strap to the wheel, be sure to thread it through the two holes in the rim, leaving one open hole between them. Otherwise, the compact wheel may fall out in an accident.

Preparing to change a wheel

1. Follow safety precautions.

2. Take measures to prevent the car from rolling away: place a wheel chock under the front wheel located on the opposite side of the car (on a flat surface - behind the wheel, on a downward slope - in front of it). If the road is on a steep slope, take additional measures to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.

3. Loosen the wheel bolts by half a turn.

Raising the car

1. Place the jack under the support closest to the wheel. The base of the jack should be positioned…

1. Place the jack under the support closest to the wheel. The base of the jack should be positioned directly under the support and rest on the ground with its entire surface.

Caution: Use the jack only for changing wheels. To avoid property damage and injury, never attempt to lift other makes of vehicle or any load with it.

2. Rotate the crank handle to move the jack console into the rectangular socket of the support.

2. Rotate the crank handle to move the jack console into the rectangular socket of the support.

3. Rotate the handle to raise the car until the wheel is off the ground.

Wheel installation

1. Remove the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.

2. Clean the wheel hub and wheel bolts from dirt.

3. Install the wheel (regular spare or compact) and screw in at least two opposite bolts. When installing non-BMW alloy wheels, use the wheel bolts supplied with them.

4. Install the remaining bolts and tighten all bolts securely in a crisscross pattern.

5. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack.

After installation

1. Tighten all wheel bolts in a crisscross pattern.

Please note: For safety reasons, please contact a service center as soon as possible to have the wheel bolts checked for tightness using a calibrated torque wrench. The tightening torque is 140 Nm.

2. Place the damaged wheel in the trunk.

3. Check the air pressure in the tire as soon as possible and bring it to the correct level.

Note: To protect the nipple from dirt, screw the cap onto it. A dirty nipple often causes a gradual air leak.

4. Initialize the tire rundown indicator.

Note: If a compact spare tire is installed, there is no need to initialize the tire rundown indicator.

5. Replace the damaged tire and balance the wheel as soon as possible.

Driving on a compact spare tire

Move without sudden maneuvers and do not exceed the speed limit of 80 km/h. The driving characteristics of a car may change: it "holds the road" worse when braking, the braking distance increases, and its own cornering ability changes in critical conditions. These changes are even more pronounced when combined with winter tires.

Please note: Only one compact wheel is permitted on a vehicle. Do not use the compact wheel for a long time. Try to switch to a normal wheel as soon as possible.

Secret wheel bolt

1. Secret wheel bolt.; 2. Adapter.

1. Secret wheel bolt.; 2. Adapter.

It is located in a slot under the floor of the luggage compartment.

Removal

  • 1. Insert adapter 2 into the wheel bolt.
  • 2. Remove wheel bolt 1.

After tightening the bolt, remove the adapter from it. The adapter's number is stamped on the end. Write down the adapter number in case you lose it.
