Generally speaking, tires have their own character and rough handling, such as impacts, frequent and rapid driving over curbs and rails, usually leads to premature tire failure.

Tire cleaning

If possible, do not clean tires with a steam jet. If the steam nozzle is brought too close to the tire, the top layer of rubber can be severely damaged. Tires that have been cleaned in this way will have to be replaced soon. Tires that have been in contact with oil and grease for a long time also need to be replaced. These tires swell at the points of contact, but they soon return to their normal shape and appear undamaged. However, the load-bearing capacity of the tires is greatly reduced.

Tire storage

Tires should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place. They should not be exposed to gasoline, oils or grease.

Tires should be stored lying down or hanging on rims in a garage or shed (basement).

Before removing the wheels, you need to increase the pressure in them by 0.3-0.5 bar.

For winter tires, it makes sense to purchase your own rims so as not to swap different types of tires onto the same rims.

Tire running-in

New tires have a very smooth surface after leaving the factory. Therefore, new tires need to be run in. During such running in, the smooth surface will be worn out.

When driving the first 300 km on new tires, you need to be especially careful when driving on slippery or wet roads.

Anti-skid chains

The use of anti-skid chains is permitted only on driving vehicles (i.e. rear) wheels. You cannot drive faster than 50 km/h with anti-skid chains. When driving on a road free of snow and ice, the chains must be removed.

The use of chains recommended by BMW is permitted.
