Car care (BMW 5 Series E34)
Thanks to its multilayer structure, the paintwork of the body protects it from corrosion. In addition to priming by the cataphoresis method in an electrolytic bath, preservation of cavities is carried out using materials specially created for this purpose and tested in many years of practice.
An elastic polyvinyl chloride coating is sprayed onto the entire surface of the car body bottom, after which the bottom is generally preserved using a wax-based anti-corrosion mastic.
In industrial areas, deposits of rust, lime, greasy soot, and precipitation containing sulfur dioxide (acid rain), as well as other air pollutants, if the car is not properly maintained, will inevitably cause damage to the paintwork, usually on the horizontal surfaces of the car body.
In coastal regions, increased corrosion is particularly promoted by the high concentration of salts in the air and its increased humidity.
As a result of mechanical action (sand, salt scattered on roads, small stones, etc.) depending on the type and depth of damage, corrosion can spread from the damaged area, penetrating under the multi-layer structure of the coating.
Knowing about the negative impact of environmental factors on painted surfaces, all BMW service stations offer for sale proven branded car care products.
Weekly car washing is recommended as a way to prevent damage to the coating. In some cases, with particularly heavy contamination, stains should be cleaned immediately as soon as dirt gets on the painted surface.
Right away (before washing the car) remove stains from spilled fuel, oils, greases and brake fluid (from contact with which the coating changes its structure and color), as well as from organic contaminants that corrode the coating.
To avoid stains, do not wash the car with the hood still warm, immediately after, and especially during exposure to the sun. When using an automatic car wash, make sure that no damage is caused to the parts mounted on the body (for example, spoilers).
Inaccessible areas (door sills, door and hood cavities, etc.) must be washed manually.
Try to wash your car more often, especially during the winter months.
Dirt stains on painted surfaces are especially clearly visible when washing the car. Immediately after washing, they should be wiped off with a clean cloth or cotton swab soaked in washing gasoline or alcohol. Bitumen stains are removed with a specially designed product.
After washing, the car surface should be covered with a preservative.
To preserve the paintwork, use only special products based on carnauba or synthetic wax. If water no longer rolls off the coating in pearly drops, it is time to treat it with a preservative. You can eliminate minor defects in the coating with branded paint products in the form of an aerosol, pencil or film.
The colour code of your car is indicated in a special memo placed next to the nameplate, as well as on the first page of the service book.
Serious damage to the paintwork must be repaired at a BMW service station by means of qualified repainting according to factory regulations and using original materials.
Alloy wheels should be maintained using (in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), especially in winter, a cleaning agent for discs, without, however, using aggressive, acid-containing, concentrated alkaline and abrasive cleaning materials and not allowing treatment with a jet of steam with a temperature above 60°C.
The inside of the glass and the reflective surfaces of the mirrors are wiped with a household glass cleaner.
Plastic parts, leatherette upholstery, ceiling, lampshade glass, and parts with a black matte coating are washed with water, sometimes with the addition of car shampoo. Do not allow the ceiling upholstery to get wet. Polymer parts are wiped, if necessary, with a plastic cleaner.
Rubber parts, if they cannot be washed with water, can only be treated with a care product or silicone spray.
Windscreen wipers are washed with soapy water.
Seat belts can be cleaned without removing them from the vehicle using only a mild soap solution; dry cleaning of the belts is not allowed, as it can destroy the fabric. Heavily soiled carpeting and floor mats* can be cleaned using an interior detail cleaner. Floor mats can be cleaned after being removed from the vehicle.
You can restore the fluffiness of worn areas on the seat upholstery that form during everyday use by brushing them "against the grain" with a slightly damp brush.
Immediately wash away stains and extensive dirt with warm water or remove with interior detail cleaner, stain remover or cleaning gasoline. After that, lift the pile with a brush on the cleaned upholstery areas. Due to the accumulation of electrostatic charge by the upholstery, which is especially intense at low air humidity, a person, having already left the car, can receive an electric shock if he touches metal parts of the body. This absolutely safe trouble can be avoided if you hold on to one of these metal parts when leaving the car.
If you want to almost completely eliminate the occurrence of electrostatic charge, you can use an antistatic aerosol.
Upholstery leather* produced in BMW factories is a valuable natural product processed using the latest technology, which, if properly cared for, retains its original high level of quality for many years.
Since we are talking about a genuine product of natural origin, along with its properties, one should also take into account the restrictions on use, as well as the peculiarities of caring for it.
Regular cleaning and maintenance are necessary, as dust and road dirt, penetrating into the pores and folds, act as an abrasive, causing intense abrasion of the leather, as well as premature fragility of its surface.
Cover leather upholstery when exposed to intense sunlight or when parked in the sun for long periods of time (or all the windows of the car), so that it doesn't burn out.
Wipe the leather surface with a knitted or woolen cloth, slightly dampened with water, without allowing the leather or seams to become completely wet. When the leather is dry, wipe it again with a clean, soft cloth. Heavily soiled leather surfaces can be washed with a soft, finely dispersed washing powder that does not contain bleach (two tablespoons per liter of water). Stains from greases and oils should be handled with care (without rubbing) remove with a swab soaked in cleaning gasoline.
Do not use household soap, cleaning or polishing agents, or products containing silicone or solvents.
The cleaned leather upholstery should also be treated with a leather care product that is also an antistatic agent. Before use, shake the liquid well and apply a thin layer with a soft cloth. After drying, wipe the leather with a clean, soft cloth. Under normal use, it is recommended to carry out such treatment once every six months.

Car wash
To avoid stains, do not wash the car with the hood still warm, immediately after, and especially during exposure to the sun. When using an automatic car wash, make sure that no damage is caused to the parts mounted on the body (for example, spoilers).
Caution: When using steam or high pressure cleaning systems, maintain sufficient distance from the vehicle. Too little distance or too much pressure may cause damage or may cause damage over time. In addition, water penetration into vehicle components may cause damage over time.
Inaccessible areas (door sills, door and hood cavities, etc.) must be washed manually.
Try to wash your car more often, especially during the winter months.
Attention: After washing the car, the brakes become damp and their efficiency decreases! Therefore, disc brakes need to be dried by short-term braking.

Some are poisonous or flammable, so always read the instructions, warnings, and recommendations on the packaging before using any product. Always open the car doors or roll down the windows when cleaning interior parts. Never use cleaning products or solvents that are not intended for use on your vehicle.
