Battery — care and charging (BMW X5 E53)

The storage battery (AB) is installed in the trunk, behind the right side trim. When working with the AB, observe safety precautions. To access the AB, you need to grab the handles in the trim panel from above and move them down. The AB does not require maintenance, and it is suitable for its entire service life.

The battery should be charged only with the engine off and through the terminals in the engine compartment, terminal "+" (see fig. 1.4) and the "-" terminal (see fig. 1.5).

The normal electrolyte level is 5 mm above the plates, which corresponds to the "MAX" mark on the outside of the battery case. Only distilled water may be added to restore the electrolyte level. More detailed information on handling the battery is given in the "Electrical Equipment" section.
