The battery should be charged only with the engine off and through the terminals in the engine compartment, terminal "+" (see fig. 1.4) and the "-" terminal (see fig. 1.5).


The normal electrolyte level is 5 mm above the plates, which corresponds to the "MAX" mark on the outside of the battery case. Only distilled water may be added to restore the electrolyte level. More detailed information on handling the battery is given in the "Electrical Equipment" section.
