Brake pedal — removal and installation (BMW 3 Series E46)
Removal
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the brake light switch (see paragraph 18).
3. Using pliers, detach the return spring from the pedal.
4. Remove the retainer, then remove the pin connecting the brake pedal to the booster rod (Fig. 11.4).

5. Remove the clip holding the pedal to the axle and remove the pedal.
6. Clean all parts thoroughly and make sure there is no wear or damage.
Installation
7. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Apply a small amount of universal grease to the pedal axle and pin.
