Removal and installation the parking brake cables and pedal (BMW 7 Series E38)

Remove the exhaust system and its heat shields (see chapter Fuel and exhaust systems).

Front cable

1. Remove the front cable from the connecting clamp.

2. Remove the left lower section of the instrument panel trim and the left front pillar trim panel (see chapter Body). Fold back the rug.



3. Pull the cable out of the sheath.



4. Remove the retainer (1), unhook and remove the cable.



5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Finally, adjust the parking brake (see section Adjusting the parking brake).

Right and left cables

1. Disconnect the rod from the parking brake shoe release mechanism.



2. Remove the parking brake cable from the connecting clamp.

3. Disconnect the brackets securing the cable to the body and remove the cable.

4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Finally, adjust the parking brake (see section Adjusting the parking brake).

Pedal

For greater clarity, the work process is described with the pedal assembly removed.

1. Remove the lower left trim panel (see chapter Body).





2. Remove the retainer and disconnect the front cable.



3. If necessary, remove both heads of the locking pin (1) and pull out the pin.

Use a new locking pin when installing.

4. Remove the damper (1), retaining clip (2) and parking brake pedal.

5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Check the condition of the pedal axle bushing and replace it if necessary. Lubricate the sliding surfaces of the bushing.
