Replacing the parking brake pads and their release mechanism (BMW 7 Series E38)

1. Remove the rear wheel brake disc (see section Removal and installation brake discs).

2. Disconnect the return springs from the pads. Check the condition of the springs and replace them if necessary.

3. Turn the pins using special tool No.34 4 000 at an angle of 90° and remove them. Remove the brake shoes.

4. If it is necessary to remove the release mechanism, remove part (A) by pulling it backwards. Press out pin (B) and remove part (C).

5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the bushing (1) and the adjusting screw (2) are installed correctly, lubricate their threads. Finally, adjust the parking brake (see section Adjusting the parking brake).
