Removal and installation the vacuum booster (BMW 7 Series E38)

1. Remove the GTZ (see section Removal and installation of the brake master cylinder and its reservoir) and the left windshield wiper lever (see chapter On-board electrical equipment).

2. Remove the rubber seal (1), slide the cover fastening brackets (2) towards the center of the windshield and lift the cover up.

3. Unscrew the bolts and remove the cover.

4. Remove the cover (1) and outlet (2) of the pipes and disconnect the vacuum hose (3) from the vacuum booster.



5. Remove the brake light D/W (see section Removal the D/W brake lights and service brake pedal).

6. Remove the bracket (1) and unhook the return spring (2).

8. Loosen the nuts (1), unscrew the bolt (2) and move the pedal assembly away from the engine compartment bulkhead.

Use new self-locking nuts when installing.




9. By gently rocking the vacuum booster, disconnect it from the engine compartment bulkhead.

To avoid damaging the vacuum booster, do not apply excessive force when disassembling and assembling it.

10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Install the washer (1), replace the seal (2) if necessary.

Part (3) of the vacuum booster is a very sensitive element and its damage can lead to failure of the entire booster.
