Adjusting the tension of drive belts (BMW 5 Series E12)
The normal deflection when pressing with your thumb on the branch between the alternator and fan pulleys for the alternator drive belt and when pressing with your thumb on the middle of the upper branch for the injection pump and power steering drive belts should be within 5-10 mm. Check the belt tension every 15,000 km.
