Starter fault diagnostics (BMW 7 Series E32)

If the starter does not rotate, then first of all you need to check whether there is a voltage of at least 10 V required for operation on contact 50 of the traction relay. If the measured voltage is less than the specified value, then you need to check the wires in the starter circuit according to the diagram. You can check whether the starter operates from the battery voltage as follows:

Without engaging gear, turn on the ignition.

Connect with a wire of at least 4 mm² cross-section to the starter.

If the starter works normally, then the wires in the circuit are faulty. In this case, check the starter with it removed.

Caution: The connections of the leads must be tight and free from corrosion.
