Starter — removal and installation (BMW 7 Series E32)

The starter is located on the side at the junction of the cylinder block and gearbox, and it is removed downwards.

Removal

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Close the negative terminal of the battery to prevent accidental electrical connection.

Remove the lower engine splash guard (cover).

Disconnect the wires: 1 - contact 30, directly from the battery; 2 - contact 50 from the ignition switch.

Caution: Mark the wires before removing to avoid confusion.

Remove the starter mounting bolts from the gearbox side using a suitable extension.

Remove the starter.

Check the starter pinion and starter ring gear for damage.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
