Generator/Voltage Regulator Contact Brushes — Replacement/Check (BMW 7 Series E32)

Check the contact rings for wear, clean and polish them if necessary.
Clean the contact surfaces and check the force of the contact springs, replace them if necessary.
Installation
Insert the carbon brushes (A) and springs (B) into the brush holder (C) and solder the connections.

To prevent solder from getting into the flexible wires when soldering new brushes, you need to press the brush wires with pliers.
Caution: Solder may cause the wires to become stiff and the brushes will not be able to be cleaned.
After installing new brushes, check that they move easily in the brush holder.
First, loosely secure the voltage regulator with one screw, then press it into the desired installation position and secure it with all screws.
Install the rear protective cover on the generator.
Install the generator.
Removal the Valeo Generator
Remove the generator.
Unscrew the three screws and remove the generator protective cover.
Remove the two screws and one nut securing the voltage regulator and remove the regulator.
Installation
Install the new voltage regulator with the mounting cover and secure it loosely with screws and nuts.
Pull the mounting cover upward.
Put on the protective cover and tighten the M4 threaded mounting screws to 2 Nm, and the M5 threaded screws to 4 Nm.
Install the protective cover and secure it with screws.
Install the generator.
