Withdrawal
Removing the carbon brushes is possible without removing the alternator.
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Bosch voltage regulator
Unscrew the voltage regulator with brush holder from the back of the generator and carefully pull it out.
Replace carbon brushes if their length is less than 5 mm, for which solder the current leads.
Check slip rings for wear, grind and grind if necessary.
Clean the contact surfaces and check the elasticity of the contact springs, replace if necessary.
Installation
In order to prevent the solder from getting into the brush braid when soldering new brushes, hold the braid with tweezers.
Caution: Solder intrusion makes the braid stiff and brittle, and the brushes unusable.
The insulation must be clamped into the lugs near the soldering point.
After installation, check the ease of movement of the brushes in the brush holder.
Install and fix the voltage regulator first with one screw, and then press it and fix it completely.
Connect ground wire to battery.
Motorola voltage regulator
Withdrawal
Unscrew the RFI filter capacitor from the back of the generator.
Disconnect the voltage regulator connector and remove the regulator.
Installation
Insert voltage regulator.
Attention: The colors of the wires must match the colors of the contacts.
Screw on the RFI filter capacitor.
Check and, if necessary, correct the electrolyte level in the battery.
On 6-cylinder and diesel engines: Check the exhaust gas container and empty it if necessary.
