Removal and installation the generator (BMW 3 Series E30)

Removal

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.



On six-cylinder models: Disconnect the battery terminal at the connector.

Loosen the tension and remove the V-belt.



Bosch 65 A generator: remove the wires from contacts B (+) (terminal 30) and 0 (+) (terminal 61). Unscrew the ground wire (terminal 31).

Loosen the generator mounting bolt and remove the generator.

Motorola 65 A generator: Loosen the generator mounting nuts, remove the bolts. Remove the generator, then the wires from contacts B (+) (terminal 30) and D (+) (terminal 61).



Bosch 80 A generator: remove the filter housing and air flow meter, then the wires from contacts B (+) and D (+), as well as the cable clamp and ground jumper.

Installation

Check the generator suspension bushings and replace them if necessary.

On the Motorola generator, before installing the generator, secure the wires to its corresponding contacts.

Insert the generator and secure with bolts.

Bosch 80 A generator: insert the tension roller and secure it with a bolt.

Connect the electrical wires to the generator: B (+) (terminal 30). D (+) (terminal 61) and ground jumper (terminal 31).

Apply and tighten the V-belt.

On six-cylinder and diesel engines: check the exhaust gas tank and empty it if necessary.

Connect the ground wire to the battery or connector.
