Removal and installation the generator (BMW X5 E53)

The BMW X5 E53 alternator replacement must be carried out in the following order, read the information from the ECU-KSUD fault memory. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the "-" terminal from the battery. Remove the air filter housing, fan drive clutch and alternator drive belt. Remove the power steering pump reservoir together with the bracket and secure it to the body with a wire clip, do not disconnect the pipes. Remove the alternator cooling air hose, if provided by the kit. Disconnect the SS from the alternator.

Remove the protective cap from the generator terminals, unscrew the nut and remove the "+" battery supply wire. Remove the "B+" and "D+" wires. Unscrew the generator mounting bolts one by one (arrows, Fig. 3.159), while holding the generator and remove it.



When installing the generator, the tension roller retainer must enter the groove on its housing. Install the belt so that the tension roller is located on top of the generator drive belt. Tighten the "D+" wire fastening nut to a torque of 7.0 N·m (0.7 kgf·m), tighten the "B+" wire nut to a torque of 13.0 N·m (1.3 kgf·m), tighten the nut for the positive battery wire supply to a torque of 13.0 N·m (1.3 kgf·m).
