Rear suspension — trailing arm (BMW X3 E83)

Removal and installation the left or right trailing arm



1. Remove the axle shaft.

2. Remove the brake disc.

3. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the release mechanism.

4. Remove the pulse sensor.

5. Remove the brake pad wear sensor (only for the right side of the vehicle).

Caution: Do not allow the brake hose to become taut.

6. Unscrew the screw and remove the bracket together with the brake hose.

Tightening torque: 9 Nm.

Caution: Failure to follow these instructions may cause the vehicle to slip off the lift, causing serious injury.


Note: When propping up, ensure that:
  • the car no longer rose or fell;
  • the car did not lift off the lift's support plates.


7. Remove the coil spring.

8. Secure fixtures 315220 and 332160 to the flange using wheel bolts.



9. Support the trailing arm using tool 315220 and a jack.

10. Disconnect the support bracket from the body.

11. Disconnect the lower wishbone from the trailing arm.

12. Disconnect the upper wishbone from the trailing arm.

13. Installation should be carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the above notes.

14. Adjust the parking brake.

15. Check and adjust the wheel alignment angles.
