Air supply system — general information (BMW X5 E53)

The air supply system is designed to supply air to the combustion chamber in the amount required by the engine at a given power level, while maintaining complete combustion, and includes the following units and assemblies:

• air intake/silencer;
• air ducts;
• air purification filter;
• air flow meter;
• throttle body;
• idle speed control valve;
• intake manifold (pipeline);
• executive unit of the resonance system;
• incoming air temperature sensor.

Individual components of the air system such as the air flow meter, throttle body, idle air control valve and intake air temperature sensor will be discussed in the subsection "Fuel injection system".
