Lifting and towing a car (BMW 3 Series E21)
Rise
Using a portable jack. On each side of the car, reinforced sockets are provided in the door frames for installing a rack jack with a movable lever. When installing the jack, the upper part of the jack should be moved away from the longitudinal axis of the car, simultaneously ensuring a reliable stop of the jack support and eliminating the possibility of damaging the door.
Using a garage jack. At the front of the car, it is necessary to place the jack levers under the lower crossbar, placing wooden pads underneath.
At the rear of the vehicle, the jack arms should be positioned under the rear crossmember. Do not use the rear axle housing as a support.
Towing
The towing cable is attached at the front to the eye in the lower right part of the body, and at the rear to the eye in the middle of the rear lower part of the body.
Towing a car with an automatic transmission is permitted for a distance of 40-50 km at a speed of no more than 50 km/h. In this case, the selector lever should be set to the "N" or "0" (neutral) position, depending on the model.
When towing over a longer distance, pour 1 liter of ATF oil into the gearbox housing above the "maxi" mark on the dipstick; after repair, restore the normal oil level in the gearbox housing.
When towing a significant distance, it is necessary to raise the rear of the vehicle or disconnect the propeller shaft from the automatic transmission output shaft flange.
