Towing a car (BMW 7 Series E32)
The car can only be towed using the eyes specially designed for this purpose. They are included in the kit supplied with the car and must be screwed into special threaded holes on the front and rear bumpers before towing.
Front: Open the threaded hole by pressing the cover. The cover is on the right side of the front bumper.
Rear: Open the threaded hole by pressing the cover. The cover is located on the right side of the rear bumper.
Turn on the ignition to prevent the wheel from locking, and to ensure that the brake lights, horns and windshield wipers work.
Set manual transmissions to neutral; on automatic transmissions, engage range N.
Turn on the hazard warning lights on both vehicles.
Since the brake and steering boosters only work when the engine is running, a car with the engine not running requires much more force to be applied to the brake pedal and steering wheel.
Towing with a rigid hitch is recommended. Towing with a rope is significantly more dangerous. If there is no rigid hitch, use elastic ropes or ropes with elastic inserts.
Gear selector lever position: N. Maximum towing speed: 70 km/h.
Maximum towing distance is 150 km.
In case of a faulty automatic transmission, higher speed or towing for a longer distance, the car must be towed with the drive wheels raised, because when the engine is not running, the automatic transmission fluid pump does not work. At a speed of more than 70 km/h and when towing for a distance of more than 150 km, the automatic transmission will not be sufficiently lubricated.
If the vehicle is faulty, it must be towed only with the drive wheels raised.
Starting the engine with acceleration (towing) not possible on vehicles with automatic transmission.
Turn on the ignition.
Press the accelerator pedal
Engage third gear, press the clutch pedal and hold it in this position.
Accelerate the vehicle by towing or driving downhill.
Slowly release the clutch pedal.
Front: Open the threaded hole by pressing the cover. The cover is on the right side of the front bumper.
Rear: Open the threaded hole by pressing the cover. The cover is located on the right side of the rear bumper.
