Removal and installation the handbrake lever and lever pad (BMW 3 Series E36)

Removal

(Figure W 44150) Lift up from behind and remove the handbrake lever cover.



Use a screwdriver to pry up and remove the hazard warning switch.

Remove the front and rear ashtrays from console "5". To do this, open the ashtray, pull the insert upwards and unscrew the 2 screws. Remove the backlight lamp from the front ashtray.

Remove one screw at the back "6" and one at the front "7".



Lift the rear console "5" and pull it out of the middle console "8".

(Figure W4484) Unscrew the 2 nuts of the handbrake cable arrows.



Fold back the floor mat. Unscrew 3 bolts. Pull out the handbrake lever.

Installation

Insert the handbrake cables into the handbrake lever. Insert the handbrake lever and tighten.

Tighten the handbrake cable nuts by hand.

Adjust the handbrake.

(Figure W 44151) Turn on the ignition. The parking brake indicator lamp should go out when the handbrake is released. If this does not happen, adjust switch "3" accordingly.

Attach the console from the front, press it from the back and secure it with 2 screws.

Insert the hazard warning switch. Install the ashtrays.

Secure the handbrake pad to the console.
