Removal and installation / inspection of bumper shock absorbers (BMW 3 Series E46)
Removal
1. Remove the front shock absorber.

2. Disconnect the shock absorber "1". To do this, unscrew the nuts "3".
There may be rivets in place of nuts "3". In this case, they must be drilled. Unscrew nuts "2" and remove the shock absorber. If there is a cable connector "4", first open it and unscrew it.
Examination
3. Measure the length of the shock absorber from the center of the plastic insert to the supporting surface. If the obtained value is less than 127.5±1 mm, replace the shock absorber.
Installation
4. Insert the shock absorber into place and tighten it to a torque of 50 Nm (13mm wrench) or 10 NCHm (8mm wrench) or rivet with regular explosive rivets.
5. Secure the cable connector if it was removed and fix the cable.
6. Install the front bumper.
