Removal and installation / checking the horn (BMW 3 Series E46)

Removing and installing/checking the horn Behind the front bumper on the left side, there is one high-pitched and one low-pitched horn. To protect the horn contacts, a relay is connected between the button and the horn. When the horn is turned on, the relay control circuit is closed.

Removal

1. Remove the front bumper, while disconnecting the connector at the horn, refer to Section Removal and installation the front bumper.

2. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove both signals with holders from the bumper.

Examination

3. Connect the horn with auxiliary wires directly to the vehicle battery. Connect the brown cable to the battery ground (-) and the other cable to the battery positive pole (+). The horns should work.

Installation

4. Insert the signals into place and secure them.

5. Connect the connector.

6. Install the front bumper, refer to Section Removal and installation the front bumper.
