Removal and installation headlights (BMW 3 Series E46)

Removal



1. Remove the headlight washer nozzle located under the headlight, if applicable, refer to Section Removal, installation and checking headlight washer nozzles.

2. Open the hood.

2. Open the hood.


3. Release the inner visor "1" and push it down from the holders "2".

4. Remove the visor on the outer side "3" forward. To do this, pull the visor with force.

5. Disconnect all plug connections from the back of the headlight.

5. Disconnect all plug connections from the back of the headlight.


6. Mark the position of the headlight by tracing the washers of the mounting screws with a felt-tip pen (arrows in the illustration). This will allow the headlight to be returned to its original position during installation. Loosen the headlight mounting screws and remove it forward.

Installation



7. Insert the headlight and tighten the mounting screws by hand.



8. Position the headlight so that the washers on the mounting screws take the position marked during removal.

9. If you are installing a new headlight, pull it all the way forward. Close the hood and align the headlight so that it matches the contour of the body. Open the hood and tighten the headlight mounting screws.

10. Connect the lamp connector.

11. Install the visor from the outside under the headlight, tilt it inward and fix it.

12. Secure the headlight washer nozzle, if equipped, refer to Section Removal, installation and checking headlight washer nozzles.

Finally, have the headlight adjusted at a service station.
